Historical map of the Chinese province of Queicheu (present-day Guizhou) from the famous “Atlas Maior” by the Dutch cartographer Johannes Blaeu. Fine copper engraving with original contemporary hand-colouring, ornamental cartouche and figural decoration in the lower right area. Framed behind passe-partout. The “Atlas Maior” ranks among the most elaborate works in the history of cartography and was the most expensive book published in the 17th century. Frame dimensions: approx. 57 cm × 66 cm, image dimensions approx. 42 cm × 51 cm. Light age-related signs of use and storage, vertical fold line in the centre, overall good condition.
